Todo List

A small list of features / corrections that are being considered for near-future, no specific priority order and no guarantee that they will be implemented.

  • Add option to show targets symbols as small squares/diamonds, similar to a TCAS display
  • Add new aircraft symbols to radar page to help differentiate between devices types
    • This is always dependent from the data source to correctly identify the target type
  • If GPS speed lower than 4kmh (value to be defined), force the GPS heading to 0º to avoid constant screen objects rotation while stationary
    • Probably this should be done only when connected to Aero-Tracker. When connected to SafeSky App this is not suppose to happen, or it should even be following the magnetic heading of the phone????
  • Add new configuration setting to define Display initial radar scale (scale to use after a powerUp)
  • Add new configuration setting to store the display brightness set by the user.
    • Most likely an extra button on that menu to indicate to save that value
  • Add an arrow in Radar page next to each symbol do indicate if target is climbing or descending
    • If show vertical Distance is disabled on configuration option, show only +/ - if above or bellow plus the arrow
  • Add option to control show/hide alert popup (the colors still change for target and information) but don't show the alert popup to avoid too much clutter on the screen, keep the target highlighted
  • Rethink zoom buttons placement and size. In a effort to increase the font size of the information shown on the right side bar.
    • Maybe not complete, but font size of right side panel information increased, radar was moved slightly to the left because of that
    • Changed Zoom Buttons default color, to be more "dark"
  • Highlight "nearest" target in the same "color" an arrow
    • If in Alert State, the highlighted target is always the one that triggered the alert, it's not necessarily the nearest one
  • Allow to perform a WIFI Network disconnect without loosing the WIFI Network Name and current password.
    • Check viability to store up to 10 Wifi networks names and respective passwords
  • Try to automatically detect Data source and adjust the alerts "generation" configuration (it use internal or external calculation)
    • Auto-detection if connected to SafeSky App (via BLE)
    • Auto-detection if connected to Aero-Tracker (via BLE)
  • After an alert is not longer active, restore the radar zoom level.
    • Only if user hasn't touch the zoom while in alert mode
  • Rethink on how/when to show Mode-S indication, maybe limit to only show if relative altitude is lower than 500ft and it is the closest airplane only. Change the default to only show the circle distance and not the popups.
  • When using NMEA change the trigger to detect OnGround to be based on GPS speed lower than x kmh (value to be defined, attention that most times this is Ground Speed and not AirSpeed)
    • Or add a setting to define:
      • Show alerts while on Ground
      • Speed value above which the Display considers that is no longer on Ground and is airborne
    • At the moment is assuming that the NMEA and GDL90 are being implemented as expected in this regard.
  • Add menu to allow the user to enter it's own aircraft ICAO ID Code, to allow the Display to filter traffic messages that are related to him self...
  • Check if there is a easy way to log data and/or take screenshot of the Display and store in internal memory. At the moment the data partitions are set and there was no partition to store data, changing the partitions via OTA firmware is risky since it's a fragile operation and may brick the Display (would require new firmware upload via USB Connector)
  • Allow user to choose a color theme, like Dark/Light mode. Make this change at least for the radar page (the rest of the display may still be dark based)
  • Think if a "dynamic" zoom could be a good idea, some considerations
    • Display has no way of knowing if we are close to an airfield to make decisions based on that
    • The only thing the Display knows is eventually the traffic density, and even this could be "clouded" by the vertical limit decluttering unless internal processing mode is changed
    • The option should be user configurable (at least enable/disable)
      • Maybe configure the minimum scale vs max scale to be used dynamically
  • Consider better integration with SafeSky App, to inherit for example the zoom level, this could "solve" the issue of dynamic zoom by showing the same as SafeSky App.
    • And also firmware update, or at least a notification that there is a new firmware version
  • Try to think in the radar, instead of a full circle just a semi-circle, more like a TCAS real display, our airplane is not at center since the traffic behind is less important / dangerous
    • Check viability to be a config option, what can be reused from the current GUI just moving "around"
  • Check if possible to show an indication when connected to Aero-Tracker about LTE Status
